There are a number of conventional forms of aerobic exercises and the standard ones are performed at energy levels that may be termed high and maintained for longer time periods. In the case of an athlete running a number of miles at a moderate pace, this is regarded as being similar to an aerobic exercise, while sprinting is not considered to be aerobic training. In fact, any physical activity that entails rhythmic motion can be termed as aerobic exercise, though activities that are discontinuous are not thought of being as aerobic exercises.
A major criticism of aerobics is that it is not sufficient for professional requirements, such as those established for athletes, military, and emergency personnel. This may be because aerobic exercises do not offer muscular strength, especially in the upper body.
